The Botanical Garden and Eco-Park is located in the traditional evergreen forest of Chandranath Reserve Forest Block in Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong District. It is 35 km from Chittagong city, Located on the east side of Dhaka-Chittagong highway and railway. If you continue from Chittagong city along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, first pass Pahartali and then one by one Kattli, City Toran, Kumira Barbakund as you pass, you will see the Chandranath Temple on a high hill on the east side, with a botanical garden and ecopark at its foot. 2 km from Sitakunda Upazila Sadar. A signboard with a colored gate on the east side of the highway adjacent to Fakirhat Bazar in the south, gives directions to the ecopark.
Upon entering the ecopark you will see a large display map, through which you will get a complete idea about the ecopark. The distance from this place to Chandranath temple is about 5 km, you can go there on foot or by jeep, micro. Travelers who love nature and want to enjoy nature, must visit Eco Park in Sitakunda.
The eco-park is rich in wildlife, including deer, bears, monkeys, rabbits and Hanuman, the chirping of birds, natural fountains, and evergreen trees.
Inside the main gate of the Botanical Garden and Ecopark, on the right side, is the main nursery of the Botanical Garden and its office is located.This nursery has many common and extinct species of flowers, fruits and medicinal plants from home and abroad, Arjun, Telsur, Chapalis, Chundul, Karai, Jarul, Tun, Jam, Olive and many more.
There is also a nice orchid house in the Botanical Garden. There are about 50 species of orchids of different species from home and abroad. There is a watch tower inside the Eco Park which can be seen from far away. Sitakunda Eco Park is a green land of amazing natural beauty. This area is full of different types of trees, flowers and shrubs. Throughout the year, this place attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists.
Picnic Corner: The Botanical Gardens and Ecopark have all the facilities for picnics including drinking water, rest houses and toilets.
Sahastradhara and Shuptadhara waterfalls: There are many small and big fountains in this Chandranath Reserve Forest area. Among these fountains there are two fountains in the Botanical Garden and Ecopark area. The two fountains are known as Sahastradhara and Shuptadhara. A gigantic amount of water falls from sahastradhara. But very little water falls from the shuptadhara in winter, but during the rainy season they rotate in their full course.It is worth mentioning here that this Sahasradhara Jharna is a traditional and religious pilgrimage site of Sitakunda.
How to get there:
By road :
From Dhaka: BRTC buses leave from Dhaka Kamalapur terminal. And other AC and non AC buses leave from Saidabad bus station. Comfortable and reliable services are S.Alam and Saudia, Greenline, Silk Line, Sohag, Baghdad Express, Unique Prabhuti. All buses stop at Sitakunda. The park is accessible through a place called Fakirhat, just 2 km south of Sitakunda bus stand.
From Chittagong:
Buses to different districts of the country including Dhaka leave from Alankar, Ak Khan , Cornellhat bus station. And buses of different routes within the district leave from Madarbari, Kadamtali bus station. If you wanna come to Sitakunda from Chittagong, you have to travel by buses on the internal routes of the district. Apart from that, you can take some small cars (locally known as Mexi) from Alangkar and come to Fakirhat.
By Rail:
From Dhaka: The high speed train “Dhaka Mail” from Dhaka only stops at Sitakunda. It leaves Dhaka at 11 pm and reaches Sitakunda at 6.30 am to 7.00 am the next day. Other intercity trains go directly to Chittagong. Shivartudashi stops at Sitakunda only during the fair.
From Chittagong:
4 intercity trains leave Chittagong for Dhaka (7 am, 7.15 am, 2pm and 11pm). Tickets must be collected 2-3 days before. Some local trains also leave Chittagong to reach Sitakunda, at 5 am, 8 am, 9 am, 2 pm and 7:30 pm, their schedules are variable.
By Air :
There are flights of different companies including Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Dhaka to Chittagong. It takes 50 minutes by plane to reach Chittagong from Dhaka.
