Bashkhali Eco Park – Chittagong

Banshkhali Eco Park is a natural ecopark located in Bashkhali upazila of Chittagong district. This ecopark is decorated with  high and low hills, clear waters of the lake, forests and wide coastline of the Bay of Bengal. You can visit to enjoy the chirping of winter guest birds.

In order to protect wildlife and forest resources, ‘Chunti Sanctuary’ was declared in 1986 with about 7764 hectares of forest land. Later both the Left Chhara and Right Chhara projects were included in the Chunti Sanctuary. The sanctuary has many hills, canals and rhymes. In 1993, LGED, Department of Engineering, constructed a dam on the slope of the hill for an irrigation project on agricultural land and made it suitable for cultivation of paddy land of 80 hectares in the lower right and left spread. For the entertainment lovers the eco park was established in 2003.

Diversity

There you can find around 310 species of plants. Among them are 18 species of tall trees, 12 species of medium trees, 16 species of cane and numerous orchids, epiphytes and grasses you will find here. The area is rich in evergreen forests with roaring, gutgutia, bailam, civet, champaful and various shrubs. Various types of (buffer, herbal, long term) fascinating gardens have been created in the 674 hectare forest area of ​​the park. Guest birds arrive here during the winter season.

Learning Center

The information and learning center was set up on August 21, 2011 so that tourists can easily know about the thousands of wild animals and different species of plants roaming in the ecopark.

How to go

Transportation from Chittagong is easy here. The distance from Chittagong city to Bashkhali is only 50 kilometers. It takes about 2 hours to get here on the bus. Bus fare is 50-80 taka per person. CNG fare is 400-450 taka. It will take about two and a half hours.

Location

Bashkhali Ecopark was established in 2003 in Bashkhali upazila of Chittagong district, 50 km south-west of Chittagong city, covering 1,000 hectares of forest land including bamerchora and danerchora areas. It is located in the Jaldi block of the Jaldi Sanctuary Range.
