Ali’s Tunnel – Bandarban

About three kilometers east-south of Alikadam Upazila Sadar, the name of the hill is ‘Alir Pahar / Hill’. The location of 4 mysterious tunnels in this Ali hill. There are many fairy tales and ghost stories about these tunnels. At the same time there is a true story. To the locals it is best known as ‘Alir Shurongo’ or ‘Ali’s Suram’.

You have to cross the canal, go to the top of the hill, through the inaccessible waterway between the two hills to reach Ali’s tunnel. There are natural beauties scattered in this way .

When you cross the Alikadam mongchopru para clear water of Toin canal you will find ali,s hill . Then sometimes go up, sometimes go down. If you cross the Jhiri with a bamboo bridge in the middle, the way to the tunnel. Mountains on both sides. The body of the mountain is like the artist’s artwork, the cold water is dripping. The whole environment is wrapped in green. The light of the sun is sometimes coming through the gaps between the mountains and the trees.

The entrance to Ali’s tunnel is in the middle of one of the two high hills facing each other. An iron staircase has been set up from the bottom to the entrance. Breaking down the stairs and putting your feet in the mouth of the tunnel will make you think that you have conquered Everest.

Inside the tunnel, it is pitch dark, so you have to enter with a touch light or a torch. A swarm of bats will fly away and increase the fear. However, they do not harm anyone. The path was slippery in the shallow water frozen under the tunnel.

If you like adventure then go to the second cave in front of this cave. It will take about 20 minutes to go from the bottom of the first cave to the bottom of the second cave. If you wish, you can go up to the cave without rope from below. However, you can use the rope for safety reasons. So you can take a rope like 40 feet when you go. If you wish to see the second cave, you can enter this cave by looking at the first cave. This path is relatively easy.

The way to go

You have to take any bus from Dhaka to Cox’s Bazar and get off at Chakaria bus terminal. Non AC bus fare from Dhaka will be 750 taka. From there you can take a bus to Alikadam. Army zone next to Alikadam Upazila Sadar. Boat from army camp to Ali’s Tunnel. You can go in the morning and come back in the afternoon. If you want to enter the tunnel, you have to take the local tribals as a guide.

Or you can go to Chittagong by train and take a bus from Chittagong. The bus fare from Chittagong to Chakaria is 170 taka per person. Matamuhuri Transport Service buses leave Chakraya Bus Terminal daily from 7.30 am to 6.30 pm for Alikadam. Depart from Alikadam every day from 7.00 am to 5.30 pm for Chakriya. The car left after 40 minutes from both sides. The rent is 60 taka per person. It takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. From Chakaria you can come by Alikadam moon (jeep). Local rent is 65 taka per person. Reserve fare is 1200-1400 taka.

Two hours by bus. And if you go to the moon car, it will take 30 minutes or 40 minutes less. The difference between the two is only 10 taka.

Or you can go to Alikadam through Bandarban. There are regular buses from Dhaka or Chittagong to Bandarban.

Where will you stay?

If you wish, you can take a night bus from Dhaka and get off at Chakraya. You can see it from Chittagong in one day. Even if you have to stay. There is no better way to stay in Alikadam. The district council has a post bungalow located at Pan Bazar, a short distance from the bus stand and a privately owned boarding house located at Alikadam Bazar. The quality of boarding is not so good. The post bungalow has a total of 10 rooms. Rent – 5 downstairs for 500 taka each. 5 on the second floor for 1000 taka each. Room rent for two beds at Zia Boarding – 450 taka.

Where to eat

The food hotels of Alikadam are of medium quality. It would be wrong to expect too much.
