Sreefoltoli Zamindar Bari – Gazipur

Located near the capital city of Dhaka, in Kaliakair Upazila of Gazipur, Zamindar Bari (also known as Shreefaltali Court of Estate) is one of the historical landmarks of the area. At first glance, you will be captivated by this zamindar’s house, which includes three distinct mansions.

Like many other zamindar houses, Shreefaltali Court of Estate is divided into two sections: the smaller side and the larger side. The smaller side appears to be well-maintained, with clear evidence of care. The family of the late North descendant, Mr. Appel Sahib, still resides there, and the location is also used for shooting various dramas and films.

History of Zamindar Bari and Shreefaltali Court of Estate:

According to historical records, the zamindari history of this estate dates back almost 200 years. Among the famous Bhuiyans of Mughal Bengal was Bhawal Gazi. The Bhawal Gazis were four brothers: Fazal Gazi, Kashem Gazi, Selim Gazi, and Taleb Gazi. While the main rajbari was in Bhawal Garh, Taleb Gazi constructed his zamindar house in Shreefaltali, located in Kaliakair, Gazipur. This is the zamindar house of Taleb Gazi, now known as Shreefaltali Court of Estate.

In those times, zamindars were engaged in a silent competition regarding their grandeur—be it their mansions, ponds, schools, colleges, or hospitals. This silent rivalry led to the creation of vast zamindari estates and houses like this one, including Shreefaltali Court of Estate.

Architectural Features and Stories of Shreefaltali Court of Estate:

However, there is no mention of Taleb Gazi in the small side of the house’s gates or the family history. It is said that the Shreefaltali Court of Estate was formed from the ownership of the nine-anna portion of the famous Talibabad pargana, and its main authority was Khoda Nawaz Khan. This estate is also known as the haunted zamindar house in the area.

Local legend claims that when the zamindar left the house, he buried valuable ornaments and precious items in the walls and floors of the house, locking the rooms before departing. Many have tried to find these hidden treasures, but none have succeeded. Some say that large snakes guard the gold and jewels, and mysterious sounds are heard at night.

The Beauty and Charm of Zamindar Bari (Shreefaltali Court of Estate):

Beyond these myths and tales, the decoration and architectural beauty of the zamindar house will amaze anyone who visits. The two-story mansion is complemented by several single-roofed old houses at the back. One of them still has clearly visible pillars with Chinese-style carvings. However, the boundary walls are in a state of disrepair. On the other side of the boundary walls is another zamindar house of the small side, and between the two mansions stands an old mosque built in Mughal architectural style.

How to Visit Zamindar Bari (Shreefaltali Court of Estate):

From Dhaka, you can take any bus to Tangail and get off at Kaliakair Bazar. Alternatively, you can travel on the Gabtali-Savar road, where several buses head toward Kaliakair Bazar. Some buses even stop at Chandramor, where you can switch to another bus or a tempo to reach Kaliakair Bazar.
