Spanning the Meghna River between Bhairab and Ashuganj on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, this 1,200-meter-long and 19.60-meter-wide bridge (also known as the Bangladesh-United Kingdom Friendship Bridge) offers a stunning view of the mighty Meghna. From this bridge, one can enjoy the river’s vast beauty.
Right next to the bridge stands the historic 6th George Railway Bridge (Habildar Abdul Halim Railway Bridge), constructed in 1937.
The scenic surroundings of these bridges standing on the Meghna River, with their connecting roads on both sides, offer a picturesque view. The sight of waves of the river, cargo ships lined up in rows, the continuous flow of mechanized and non-mechanized boats, and various species of birds floating in the blue sky all add to the charm. From the Bhairab Durjoy intersection on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, you can take a rickshaw to Sayed Nazrul Islam Bridge, the 6th George Railway Bridge (Meghna Railway Bridge), and the surrounding area.
