Arpara Munsi Bari – Gopalganj

Arpara Munsi Bari is located in the village of Arpara, just outside Gopalganj city, on the Tekerhat-Gopalganj highway. The historic two-story building, constructed by the Munsi family around 50 to 60 years ago, is nestled by the “Bill Root Canal.” This family, still regarded as wealthy and influential in the area, built the house, though they no longer reside there. Some of the neighboring houses are still occupied by locals.

The house itself has suffered considerable decay over time, with doors and windows no longer intact. Over the years, various trees have grown on the property, almost completely enveloping the building. The abandoned house is now home to thousands of bats, which create eerie sounds that might be mistaken for birds chirping. These sounds come from the bats hanging from the roof and flying around, adding a slightly spooky atmosphere to the site. While this sight is rare today, it still remains a distinctive feature of the place.

How to Get There

To reach Arpara Munsi Bari, drive past the Nimtali Mor from Gopalganj city, and you will find the Munsi Bari shortly ahead. You can also travel along the Dhaka-Gopalganj or Tekerhat-Gopalganj highway, and get off at Arpara. From there, cross the Bill Root Canal (just a two Taka fare) and the Munsi Bari will be right on the other side.
