Loading...The Kotbari Mainamoti Museum (Mainamati Jadugar) has attracted the attention of tourists from home and abroad at. It is now considered as an important place for students, tourists as well as researchers. The museum has become a center of learning as well as entertainment .
Many valuable antiquities were found during the excavations of Mahavihara, Kotila Mura, Charpatra Mura, Rupbanmura, Itakhola Mura, Ananda Bihar, Rani’s Bangla, and Bhoj Raja’s Bari Bihar in Comilla. To preserve and display these antiquities, a west-facing museum was set up in 1965 in front of the Shalban Bihar on the south side of the Shalban Bihar in Comilla Kotbari.
An archeological department rest house and a beautiful flower garden were also built around the museum.
These issues have also been mentioned in the archeological publication Mainamati-Lalmai booklet published by the Department of Archeology, Ministry of Culture, Government of Bangladesh. Due to the lack of space in the museum’s main building for the display of important antiquities, the building was extended to the south side in 1970-71, giving it the shape of an English “T”. The entire museum building has a total of 42 reservoirs measuring 1.83 meters, 1.22 meters and 61 meters.where antiques are being displayed.
The exhibition starts from the left side of the entrance of the museum with the exhibition base No. 1 and ends in base 42 on the right side of the entrance.
Archaeological excavations at the exhibits include archeological excavations, metal inscriptions, antique coins, earthenware, burnt clay tablets, bronze statues, stone sculptures, iron nails, stone beads and carvings. .
In addition, some stone and bronze statues have been placed on the floor of the museum in different places. Some of these statues are collected from different parts of the ancient Samatata. Notable stone and bronze statues on display in the museum are: various types of stone standing Lokottara Buddha statues, Tri Vikrama Vishnu statues, Tara statues, Mariachi statues, Manjur statues, Parvati statues, Hargauri statues, Nandi statues, Mahishamardini statues, Mansha statues ganesh statue,surzo statue heruk statue,bronze brazasatta statue. There are also some more large and small bronze statues.
In this museum there is a giant bell made of bronze. Whose weight is 500 kg. It has a diameter of 0.84 m and a height of 0.74 m with an upper fence. The gold and silver coins found in Mainamati are preserved in the base of this museum. Terracotta slabs. Materials made of bronze and copper. Materials made of iron. Different types of toys made of clay. Patterns of woodwork. Manuscript of ancient manuscript written on tulle paper. Pottery of different specimens etc.
The schedule of the museum is-
The Mainamati Archaeological Museum is open to visitors 6 days a week except every Saturday.
Half day weekly on Sundays and Mondays of the week.
In summer , the museum is open from 10 am to 6 pm. The lunch break is from 1pm to 1.30pm.
In winter it is open from 9 am to 5 pm. Break from 1pm to 1.30pm.
It is open on Fridays from 9 am to 12 noon and from 3 pm to 6 pm.
Ramadan from 10 am to 4 pm. Midday break from 1pm to 1:30 pm.
The museum is also closed on all holidays declared by other executive orders of the government.
How to get to Comilla –
Comilla – Comilla station can be reached by train from Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong, Chandpur, Noakhali etc., get off at Comilla and come to Kandirpar by auto-rickshaw or rickshaw, then go to the following location and will charge 10 taka per person. You can come by bus from Dhaka to Comilla –
From Dhaka Jatrabari you can come by Asia Transport, Asia Line or Tisha Transport (there are both AC, non-AC), Royal Coach from Kamalapur with air conditioning. Royal Coach is very comfortable but slow. Ride up on any of them, on your way to Comilla you will see Buriganga Bridge, Meghna Bridge, Daudkandi Bridge and the morning sun on both sides of the road will amaze you. You will not need anything else to please a nature-loving eye.Enjoying the view you will come to Comilla Cantonment (1) or you can get off at Kotbari main road(2). Rent will be up to 200-250 taka. It will take 2 to 2.5 hours.
.(1)Tempo is available to go from the cantonment to Kotbari through the cantonment you can get into a tempo without any worries.
(2) Or CNG to Kotbari from Kotbari main road will cost 20/30 per person .
Bus from Chittagong to Comilla-
By Saudia Transport (AC, non-AC) come to Comilla’s Paduar Bazar main road and go down to Jangalia, the fare will be 200-250 taka. It will take 2.5 to 3 hours. For the Chittagong residentsthere’s nothing to describe the view around the Comilla-Chittagong road, the two sides of this beautiful road. Anyway, after coming to Jangalia, come Tomcham bridge by Auto rent 5 taka.
Kotbari from Comilla town – 10 km from Comilla town and 3 km west of Comilla bypass Nandanpur on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at the foot of Lalmai and Shalban hills Kotbari is located .
From Comilla Tomchambridge Chaumuhani, you can go to Kotbari by CNG. Rent 20 taka. It will cross from Daulatpur.
After getting down from CNG to Kotbari, Rent to Shalban Bihar by auto is 5/10 rupees per person.
