The artistic and intricately designed Nagarpur Chowdhury Bari (Nagarpur Chowdhury House / Zamindar Bari) was established on approximately 54 acres of land by Jodunath Chowdhury. It is said that he planned to design Nagarpur in the style of Kolkata. From here, he managed the Zamindari. Beside the Rangmahal, there was a beautiful zoo that housed peacocks, parrots, deer, and mynas, among other animals.
The entire Zamindar house actually resembles a small city. The house has many rooms, some for the Nayebs (subordinates), some for the servants, and some for the dependents. There was also a separate guest house.
The entire interior of the house is beautifully crafted from white marble. There are horse stables, a fairy palace, and Rangmahal. The main structure, which is four stories high, is the largest. To the west, there is a three-story horse stable. At the very southern part of the house, there is a large pond spread over 11 acres of land.
Horse Stable – For managing the Zamindari and business purposes, sturdy and beautiful horses were kept at the Chowdhury house. The artistic structure built for these horses and those who took care of them became known as the “Horse Stable” in the Zamindar house.
Zamindar Satish Chandra Ray Chowdhury established schools, colleges, temples, charitable clinics, playgrounds, and many markets in the area. In recognition of his public welfare work, the British government honored him with the title of ‘Ray Bahadur’.
After the partition of India, Satish Chandra and his family moved to India.
