Bindubasini School – Tangail

On April 3, 1880, a group of education enthusiasts and government officials elevated a minor school in Tangail to a high school and named it Graham English High School after the then district commissioner of Mymensingh, Mr. Graham. The school operated under financial constraints for almost five years. To address these financial challenges, the school was entrusted to the renowned zamindar of Dhanbari, Nawab Bahadur Nawab Ali Chowdhury. However, he bore the financial burden for just two years.

In 1887, the esteemed landowner of Santosh, Bindubasini Chowdhurani, took over the financial responsibility of running the school. Purnoth Nath Roy Chowdhury and Manmath Nath Roy Chowdhury, the brothers and zamindars of Santosh, renamed the school as Bindubasini High School in honor of their late mother, Bindubasini Chowdhurani. They also donated the current school premises, garden, new market area, dormitory, stadium, and the adjacent pond to the school.

Until 1910, she continued to bear the expenses of the school, and in that year, it was handed over to the government as a trust property. Until January 31, 1970, the school was funded by the government. On February 1, 1970, the school was nationalized. Since its establishment, the school has played an outstanding role in the expansion of education in the Indian subcontinent. The great visionaries, the zamindar brothers of Santosh, Premoth Nath Roy Chowdhury and Manmath Nath Roy Chowdhury, who established this school, recognized the need for English education in the then-dark era, and we today remember them with utmost respect, honor, and gratitude.
