The Jhinai River flows through the heart of Kashil Union, with the portion near Kamutiya Village locally known as the Nathkhola River. Recently, the bridge constructed over the Jhinai River has become widely known as the Nathkhola Bridge. Once you step onto the Nathkhola Bridge, the towering Nathkhola Memorial comes into view. Set against the open blue sky, this memorial holds great significance for visitors.
It is known that during the 1971 Liberation War, a fierce battle took place in Kamutiya village between the Pakistani forces and the freedom fighters. As the Pakistani soldiers approached the Nathkhola Ferry Ghat, the freedom fighters, lying in ambush in Kamutiya, bravely attacked them, risking their lives. Caught off guard, the Pakistani forces could not match the strength of the freedom fighters and suffered heavy losses, ultimately retreating. This battle was the first major resistance the Pakistani forces faced in their attempt to enter Basail, and the victory in Kamutiya greatly inspired the freedom fighters.
In memory of the great martyrs and heroic freedom fighters of the Liberation War, the Nathkhola Memorial was completed in 1998 by the Tangail District Council. The foundation stone for the memorial was laid by the legendary freedom fighter and leader of the Kaderia Bahini, Bangabir Kader Siddiki Bir Uttam MP, on November 16, 1998.
Located by the peaceful and calm Jhinai River, at the foot of the grand Nathkhola Bridge, this memorial stands with grace and elegance, symbolizing the spirit of sacrifice and courage of the martyrs. It serves as a reminder of the 1971 Liberation War, the Kamutiya battle, and the victory that followed. For tourists, the Nathkhola Memorial is a captivating place to visit.
