Nuhash Polli – Gazipur

Nuhash Polli, located in Pirujali village of Gazipur, is a garden house created by the late renowned writer Humayun Ahmed on a 40 bigha area. This tranquil retreat also served as a shooting spot for his films and a family leisure center. Entering Nuhash Polli, you will find a prayer room under the shade of Shefali trees, a small garden with old Lychee trees, a Jam garden to the north, and an Mango orchard to the south. It is also the final resting place of Humayun Ahmed, who lies in eternal peace under the shade of the Lychee trees.

About 20 kilometers from Gazipur Chowrasta, in a remote area, Humayun Ahmed created Nuhash Polli, with several structures and a variety of fruit-bearing, forest, and medicinal plants. All of this was dedicated to his son and has been turned into a dreamlike garden, with over 250 species of trees and plants. Humayun Ahmed often visited this idyllic spot to escape, bringing his family, friends, and engaging in lively discussions, especially during the Bengali New Year celebrations.

Within Nuhash Polli, Humayun Ahmed designed a few key features like a large pond, three beautiful bungalows, and a shooting spot. One of the bungalows, facing the pond with a paved ghats, was named ‘Bhoot Bilas’ (Haunted House). Behind the medicinal garden, you’ll find mythical creatures like mermaids and monsters, while other features include a lotus pond and an organically designed swimming pool. The park is a blend of Humayun Ahmed’s artistic vision and his love for nature.

What to See at Nuhash Polli

The site hosts 250 species of rare medicinal, fruit-bearing, and forest trees, with plaques for identification. In the middle of a green field, small houses have been built atop trees. To the east, there’s a date palm garden, and on the side, there’s a modern house named “Brishti Bilas.” Nuhash Polli’s main attraction, “Leelabati Dighi,” is surrounded by various trees, with a sunken, paved ghat and a small island in the middle with coconut trees.

In addition, you’ll see Humayun Ahmed’s wax statue, his final resting place, the lotus pond, a stone mermaid in a pond, replicas of prehistoric animals, and unique architectural features like the T-House and chess piece sculptures. There are also three bungalows — Bhoot Bilas, Brishti Bilas, and others — each with its own charm.
