Feni River – Feni

Feni River is a transboundary river of Bangladesh and India. Its length is 115.85 km and its source is the mountain range in the Indian state of Tripura. The Ganges flows over the northern latitude and east longitude and falls into the Bay of Bengal.

The Feni River originates at 23 ° 20 ´ north latitude and 91° ´ 47° ´ east longitude in the mountain range in the Indian state of Tripura and flows southwest to the Ramgarh Feni River, drawing the boundary between the State of Tripura and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Later it flowed westwards to Aliganj and formed the boundary between Tripura and Chittagong. After leaving the hill station, this river divides from Noakhali district to Chittagong and flows along the plain and falls into the Bay of Bengal at 22 ° 50´ north latitude and 91 ° 27´ east longitude. The Feni River, which marks the border between Chittagong, Noakhali and the Indian state of Tripura, belongs to Bangladesh. But since 1960, the Indian government has been claiming the middle of the river. Its length from source to Bay of Bengal is 115.75 km. 80.45 km from the Bay of Bengal to Ramgarh is suitable for small boating throughout the year. During the monsoon season, the river overflows its banks and after heavy rains, strong currents and cyclones make every bend of the Feni River intoxicated and turbulent. The Muhuri River in Noakhali District, also known as the Little Feni River, joins the mouth of the Feni River. However, no tributary from Chittagong district joined it. Due to the massive landslides and erosion in the hilly areas due to arbitrary felling of trees from the hill slopes, the river is slowly filling up and the incidence of floods due to the hill slopes is increasing. They came to the mouth of the river Feni and met. However, no tributary from Chittagong district joined it. However, the interesting thing is that India has been claiming the Feni river as its own river for so long by deceiving Bangladesh. That is how they have been taking advantage of the Feni river. In fact, the Feni River originates in a densely forested hilly region and its exact location is unknown. A few days ago, a geographer, an engineer, and an experienced surveyor visited the remote area to find its place of origin. They said that they found the source of the Feni river. The origin of the Feni river is one of the most talked about rivers in Bangladesh. India has so far unnecessarily claimed that the source of the river is in their country. This has been confirmed by searching for a long time from the Muhuri project of Mirsarai river to Bhagwan Tila in Achalong area of Matiranga upazila of Khagrachari district. The Feni River was said to be international. The river, which divides Bangladesh and India, originates in the state of Tripura. But the investigation proved that it is a river of Bangladesh. No part of the 108 km of the river has entered the interior of India.

According to the on-the-spot investigation report, India has been constructing riverbank blocks in the Amalighat border area of Mirsarai since September last year. Water is being withdrawn for Upendranagar in India by laying pipes at this border. India is continuously withdrawing water by laying 17 pipes to meet the water crisis in the town of Sabroom near Ramgarh. Besides, India has evicted 1,700 acres of land in Achalang mouza.
