Dakshindihi is very connected to the well-known Tagore family of Kolkata’s Jora Sanko. Sarada Sundari Devi, mother of Rabindranath Tagore, was a local. Dakshindihi is the mother of Rabindranath’s aunt, Tripura Sundari Devi, and his wife, Mrinalini Devi. The poet spent many childhood weekends at his maternal uncle’s home in Dakshindihi. He eventually made his way to Dakshindihi to tie the knot.
Directions: From Dhaka, take a bus to Khulna (served by Sohag, Eagle, Hanif, and Greenline) and then another bus to Phultola upazila. There, you can hail an auto rickshaw or a taxi to take you to Rabindranath’s in-laws’ home.
