Located in the heart of Dhaka at Shahbagh, Shahid Zia Shishu Park (Dhaka Shishu Park) is the oldest children’s park in Dhaka and one of the primary centers for children’s entertainment in the city. Established by government initiative, it is the first children’s park in the country, founded in 1979 and officially opened in 1983.
Since January 1, 2019, Shahid Zia Shishu Park has been undergoing modernization, a process expected to take one year. Therefore, the park has been closed for the entire year of 2019.
One of the most attractive features of Shahid Zia Shishu Park is that on one day of the week (every Wednesday), underprivileged and disadvantaged children are allowed free entry to the park.
Set on 15 acres of land under the initiative of the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation, the park is managed and supervised by the Dhaka South City Corporation, which operates under the Ministry of Local Government. Surrounded by greenery, the park offers a natural atmosphere with plenty of open space where children can run, play, and interact with other kids.
Shahid Zia Shishu Park or Dhaka Shishu Park offers 12 rides, including a toy train, a circular merry-go-round, and several wheel rides. In 1992, a jet plane was donated by the Bangladesh Air Force, which has further enhanced the park’s appeal.
Located near other popular attractions such as the National Museum, Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, the Three Leaders’ Mausoleum, Aparajeyo Bangla, and the Central Shaheed Minar, the park offers a great place for family visits and exploration.
