Located in Agargaon’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, the National Museum of Science and Technology is a rich museum designed to showcase natural materials and inspire local creative scientists in their innovative work.
With continuous discoveries in science, the search for reasons behind changes in the era, and the expansion of knowledge, the number of visitors to the National Museum of Science and Technology is steadily increasing. Thousands of visitors come from various regions of the country every day.
The museum is dedicated to displaying materials related to the country’s scientific and technological progress, showcasing the advancement of science, and tirelessly working to build an educated, science-oriented society.
As a result, its reach has now spread across cities, towns, and villages. It organizes science fairs, science competitions, and exhibitions on science and technology materials at various levels across the capital, divisions, districts, and upazilas. Additionally, through the Museum Bus, it brings mobile science and technology exhibitions to remote areas of the country. This is why the interest of the youth is continuously increasing towards the museum.
Under the supervision of the Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology and coordination with eminent individuals related to science, technology, education, and museums, the museum is operated. The museum has a total of seven galleries, separate entry and exit paths, and a guide to navigate through the exhibits. On clear evenings on Saturdays and Sundays, visitors can observe the sky using telescopes.
This four-story museum has galleries on the 1st and 2nd floors, offices on the 3rd floor, and the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences on the 4th floor. The 1st and 2nd floors feature galleries on Science, Industrial Technology, Biology, Information Technology, Fun Science, and Young Scientist Projects.
Additionally, the building has a library, workshop, and auditorium. There are sufficient stairs and an elevator for visitors. In front of the building, there is a dinosaur statue and a small warplane on display. The museum premises have parking spaces for up to 50 vehicles. There are also fire safety measures in place. However, taking pictures and making loud noises inside the museum are strictly prohibited. Visitors must deposit their bags, cameras, etc., at the counter before entering.
The museum is associated with 490 science clubs registered in various districts and upazilas across the country. These science clubs are managed under the museum’s supervision and are established to foster interest in science, educate people through exhibitions, and develop the innovative potential of the younger generation.
Moreover, at the district level, science fairs, team-based visits, general quizzes, science lectures, and various programs are organized on International Science Day.
Science Museum Schedule and Entry Fees
The museum is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM from Saturday to Wednesday, with an entry fee of 10 Taka for visitors. However, entry is free for children under 5 years of age. The museum remains closed on Thursdays, Fridays, and all public holidays. The number of visitors significantly increases during solar and lunar eclipses compared to other days.
