As far as the eye can see, rows upon rows of rose gardens. The bright red roses will greet you, nodding their heads in welcome. The fragrance of the flowers in the air will enchant you. This village, famous for its roses, is called Sadullapur.
A winding narrow path runs through the village, lined with countless rose gardens. As far as you can see, there is an abundance of red roses. Occasionally, you can spot some white roses, gladioluses, and gerbera gardens as well.
Located very close to Dhaka, in the Birulia Union of Savar, on the banks of the Turag River, lies the village of Sadullapur (Golap Gram/Village Sadullapur). The entire village is adorned with the fragrance of roses and captivating views. Not only Sadullapur, but the surrounding villages of Shyampur, Komlapur, and Bagmibari are also famous for their rose gardens. The beauty of the roses here attracts many people, and they visit Sadullapur in groups to enjoy the view.
Every day, around 60,000 to 70,000 roses are sold here, which accounts for about 70% of the demand for flowers in Dhaka’s markets. A bundle of 300 roses is sold for 300-400 Taka. You can also buy 50-100 roses for yourself at a very affordable price.
If you are looking for a short trip near Dhaka, Sadullapur could be an ideal destination. On the way, you can enjoy the picturesque river views and also experience the beauty of the roses up close.
How to Get There
There are bus services from various places in Dhaka that come to Mirpur Berribandh. From there, you need to get off at Bottila Trolarghat. You can also take a rickshaw from Mirpur 1 Gol Chattor or Gabtoli directly to DiyaBari Bottila Ghath. From the ghath, a trawler departs every 30 minutes. The fare is 20 Taka per person. You can walk around the entire village, or if you prefer, you can take a rickshaw to explore the village.
Alternatively, there is a route by personal vehicle or road:
- From Mirpur 1, take the Alif or Mohona bus to Birulia Bridge. Or, take a bus from Mirpur-1/10 Bus Stand heading towards Abdullapur (Mohona Transport). Another option is to take a minibus from DiyaBari near Mirpur 1. After traveling along Berribandh highway for some time, you will reach Birulia Bridge.
- From Birulia Bridge, take an auto or minibus (5 Taka) to Akraim Bazar. Alternatively, you can take a rickshaw for 30 Taka. From Akraim Bazar, take a rickshaw (30 Taka) or an auto (13 Taka) to the Golap Gram (Rose Village).
It’s a good idea to bring food with you. However, if you can’t, there are two local eateries where you can get rice, vegetables, small fish, and other meals. There is also a sweet shop in the area.
On your way back, make sure to visit the Birulia Zamindar Bari (Zamindar House) near Birulia Bridge.
