The Bangladesh Air Force Museum is located adjacent to the Tejgaon Airport, on the eastern side of the IDB building in Agargaon, Dhaka. It was established to showcase the glorious history of the Bangladesh Air Force. Visitors have the opportunity to closely observe various artifacts, including historic aircraft and helicopters used during the 1971 Liberation War.
The museum is primarily made up of various helicopters and aircraft from different periods. Notable exhibits include:
- Balaka: The first passenger aircraft of Bangladesh. This Russian-made aircraft arrived in Bangladesh in 1958.
- Air Toora: This aircraft was used for training purposes. It was added to the Bangladesh Air Force in 1997 and was made in New Zealand.
- PT-6: A Chinese-made aircraft added to the Bangladesh Airlines in 1985.
- Fugassi M-170: This French-made aircraft was inducted into the Bangladesh Air Force in 1997.
- Glider: Given by Germany, this glider was brought to Bangladesh in 1982 to enhance the air experience of the Bangladesh Air Force.
- Airtech Canadian DH 3/1000: This bomber aircraft from Canada successfully carried out operations in the Chittagong seaport during the 1971 Liberation War.
- Hunter Aircraft: During the Liberation War, this aircraft was used by India to protect Bangladesh from enemy land forces. It was gifted to the Bangladesh Air Force by the Indian Air Force.
In addition to the aircraft, the museum also features a food court and a souvenir shop.
Visiting Hours of the Bangladesh Air Force Museum:
The museum is open from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, and from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday through Saturday. The museum is closed on Sundays. Entry to the museum is allowed with a ticket priced at 20 Taka. Additionally, visitors can board the helicopter or airplane inside the museum by purchasing a 30 Taka ticket.
How to Reach the Bangladesh Air Force Museum:
If coming from Motijheel or Gulistan, take any bus heading to Mirpur 10, 11, or 12, and tell the conductor to drop you at Agargaon. If coming via Abdullahpur, Airport, or Mohakhali, take any bus going to Mirpur or Shyamli, and get off at Agargaon. The museum is located near the Agargaon signal and the eastern side of the IDB building.
