Hajiganj Fort – Narayanganj

Hajiganj Fort (Hajiganj Durgho) is a historic fortress. It is located at Killapul in the Hajiganj area of Narayanganj Sadar. This fort is known as one of the important forts of Isha Khan among Bengal’s Bar Bhuiyans. Surrounding the fort is a massive defensive wall, and to enter one must climb stairs. On one side stands a watchtower as a witness of time. Along the enclosure’s side runs a walkway, and in the wall there are three firing holes (right, left, and in the middle). Inside the fort is now largely empty, with only some trees standing, and there is a broad green field.

The fort is situated right beside the current Narayanganj Fire Service Office; in the opposite direction lies Gudaraghat. If you like, you can take a boat from the ghat across the Shitalakkhya River. On the opposite bank lies the Kadam Rasul Mausoleum.

One-Day Tour in Narayanganj — Final Part

On the first two parts of my story I spoke about Sonakanda Fort and the Kadam Rasul Dargah. After visiting those two places, taking in the views and snapping photos, it was almost 2 o’clock. Once I finished seeing the Dargah, I took a rickshaw and returned to Bandar Ghat. The fare was, as usual, 20 taka. Then my destination was Hajiganj Fort.

Hajiganj Fort is located in Killarpul in the Hajiganj area, within the Sadar Upazila of Narayanganj. It is also known as one of Isha Khan’s forts among the Bar Bhuiyans of Bengal. When I went over, I encountered the familiar problem: I couldn’t find a single person who could tell me the exact location of the fort. Later I asked a rickshaw‑puller to take me to “Killarpul.” I don’t know why he didn’t ask me any follow‑ups — “where in Killarpul?” And that was it! Anyway, for future visitors: you might try saying “Killarpul Fire Service Station.” The fort is right adjacent to the fire service station.

How to Reach It

From Dhaka, take any train or bus bound for Narayanganj. From the bus stop beside Metro Hall, you can take an auto‑rickshaw heading toward Gudaraghat — fare is 10 taka per person, or 15 taka by rickshaw. Alternatively, from Narayanganj Railway Station or from Bandar, you can take an auto or rickshaw to the fort.
