The Belabo Bazar Jame Mosque was established nearly 300 years ago. The mosque’s first founder and land donor was Mr. Mahmad Biyapari, from the Birbagber area. When the mosque was first built, it had a unique structure compared to other mosques in the region. Initially, it had seven domes.
It is said that, during its early years, the sound of Quran recitations could be heard mysteriously or supernaturally inside the mosque, which contributed to its reputation as a blessed mosque. Since its inception, the mosque was known to have large gatherings of worshippers, especially during Jummah prayers, often exceeding its capacity.
As the number of worshippers continued to increase, the current infrastructure was built with consideration for the growing congregation. This new structure was constructed by Alhaj Abdul Kadir Mollah, a renowned industrialist, educationist, and philanthropist from Narsingdi, and the Chairman of Thermex Group.
The mosque’s capacity is 8,000 worshippers, but during the Jummah prayer on the last Friday of Ramadan (Jumatul Bidah), the mosque accommodates around 20,000 to 22,000 worshippers. People from outside the region, including neighboring Kishoreganj district and Dhaka, come to perform Jummah prayers here. The mosque’s capacity has increased with its new structure, and its architectural style continues to impress everyone. Today, it is one of the main attractions in the Belabo area of Narsingdi.
